We believe spiritual growth flows out of two basic commitments:
- A commitment to God and the Bible.
- A commitment to significant Christian relationships.
To help develop these significant relationships, we have created growth and ministry opportunities
It is our goal to have every member of our church involved especially in either a Growth Group or another similar small group experience. While most groups are sermon-based, some are special interest groups focusing on topics such as parenting, marriage recovery and Christian basics for new believers.
These home Bible study groups require a ten-week commitment, and are comprised of 10-12 people. They will be meeting weekly to share, to study God’s Word and to support one another spiritually. Most of the groups will be studying a video or sermon-based curriculum.
The groups will meet for three 10-week sessions from late September through June, taking a break during the summer months. It is our hope that 80% of our weekend adult attendance will have been in Growth Groups.
Family Ministry & Community Life
Young Marrieds
What a great way to start off your marriage! Join one of the Growth Groups comprised of couples married 0-3 years and approximately 20-28 years old. Start building relationships with other young couples and building the foundation of a strong God-centered marriage. These groups are often led by couples with a few more years of marriage behind them who can encourage, support and mentor you in your walk with Jesus and your relationship with your spouse.
Young Families
Our Young Family Growth Groups are a powerful place for couples to experience meaningful connections with one another. Most of these groups meet on Thursday nights when child care is available at the church. Some of the Young Family Growth Groups are sermon-based and others have a special curriculum pertaining to marriage and family issues. Most of these young couples have infants and preschool age children. Growth Groups are a great environment for getting to know others and encouraging one another during this very special chapter in life.
Parents of Children K-6th Grade
If you have children from kindergarten-age to 6th grade and would like to meet other parents, then check these groups out. These Growth Groups are designed to connect parents together by gathering weekly to review the previous week’s sermon. These groups will be studying the Word, applying what they learn, and gaining support and encouragement from one another and God. Since we lead by example, this is a great opportunity to role-model to your children the value of regular time in the Word and regular fellowship with others.
Parents of Teens
Guiding our teens through the transitional years to adulthood can be some of the most rewarding and yet stressful times we ever experience in life. It is our passion to help people connect with each other for support, through prayer, Bible studies, and sharing. Come and be involved with other people who have been or are going through the same issues in life.
Empty Nest
Come enjoy the fellowship and study that our Growth Groups are known for with others who have raised their families and have earned the well-deserved “Empty Nest” moniker. These groups are composed of people whose children are independent, usually college aged or in their 20’s.
Senior Adults
The Senior Growth Groups comprise of married and single adults, young-at-heart, fun-loving, caring, and interested in following Jesus. Usually from age 55+, the groups gather weekly to study God’s Word and develop meaningful friendships. The groups meet in the morning. During the breaks between Growth Group quarters, you will often find these social folks gathering for fellowship.
Counselling & Inner Healing
Our Counseling Ministry knows that all of us face various difficulties along life’s way. We sometimes need help in finding solutions. When life hurts and you don’t know where to turn, we are here to help—whether you’ve experienced crisis, abuse, addiction, loss, or pain—or you are simply searching for hope and wanting to learn how to move forward to healing and wholeness. Recovery Groups
Here at CORNERSTONE San Bernardino, we want you to remember that you are not alone. Our church offers a variety of Recovery Groups to assist in your individual healing through the avenue of community. Community Service is a ministry of CORNERSTONE San Bernardino dedicated to being the hands and feet of Jesus and showing God’s love in tangible ways through our service to the community.
General Growth Groups
General Groups
These sermon-based studies are open to people of all ages and all stages of life. Time will be spent in a relaxed environment sharing thoughts and insights from the previous week’s sermon. This will be a great time to get to know one another, dig deeper into the scripture, and apply knowledge you have gathered. Meeting days differ from group to group according to agreed schedule.
Targeted-Common Interest
Each of these groups uses the popular sermon-based study format – but they are “targeted” for certain groups of people. The specific target (e.g. Couples only, Men only, Women only, etc.) for these niche groups are summarized in the individual descriptions. Please look over each group, but keep in mind that in order to sign up, you MUST fit the targeted niche of the individual group. Meeting days differ from group to group according to agreed schedule.
Classes
CORNERSTONE Classes (a ministry of CORNERSTONE San Bernardino) offers short-term (non-accredited) classes and seminars. Prayer
At CORNERSTONE San Bernardino, we believe in the power of prayer. We describe prayer as interactive communication with God in which our deepest emotions and thoughts are expressed. This includes thanksgiving, praise, request, petition, and mourning. Prayer is the acknowledgement that we are in great need of God. He eagerly turns his ear toward us as we seek intimate communication with him. Prayer can be spontaneous and heartfelt while it also can be fixed and rhythmic. Through this divine form of conversation, God graciously engages with our hearts while also revealing his. As part of our mission of making disciples, we love to encourage an exploration with this powerful Christian practice!
Single Adult Growth Groups
The Jordan (18-25 years old)
The college-aged years – They’re some of the most exciting and crucial years as you explore and set the direction of how you are going to live the rest of your life! Our passion is to help you know how to have Jesus Christ at the center of this process and to know how to live for Him. Our desire is to be an authentic community you can connect to so you will be empowered to love and worship God, transformed to grow in maturity, and equipped to serve.
Union 2535 (Young Adults Ages 25-35)
UNION is a place for young adults ages 25-35 to connect and experience life together. If you are post college through 30 something and looking for spiritual growth and like-minded community, we invite you to join us at Union 2535.
Single Adults
Our goal is to move people from crowd to community – and one of the best ways to do this is by joining one of our Singles Growth Groups. Not only will they provide you with some “instant community,” but they also will make it much easier to venture out and meet new friends at our larger group meetings and event (because you will already know 10-12 people there). I encourage you to take this step and move from crowd to community.
Life Skills and Support Growth Groups
The Life Skills and Support Ministry offers a variety of support and educational groups. Here, we learn how to incorporate God into the daily struggles we are facing. Whether seeking a job, losing weight, recovering from an addiction or managing symptoms of mental illness, we all need a safe place to talk, learn, and listen. You are not alone; we all need others to conquer strongholds in our lives. We provide Christian leadership and support and will join you in your path of becoming who God has created and destined you to be.
Unlike our Station in Life Growth Groups, most of these support groups are open for enrollment throughout the year.
